The Select Master Degree in the Council
The Select Master degree is the highest degree in the Council of Royal and Select Masters within the York Rite. It is a culmination of the lessons taught in the Royal Master degree and represents the candidate’s attainment of the final steps in Masonic knowledge and responsibility within the Council.
This degree focuses on themes of integrity, duty, and the safeguarding of the Masonic secrets. It reveals the final mysteries of the building of King Solomon’s Temple and the sacred duties performed by those who were entrusted with the protection of the most sacred parts of the Temple.
The ceremony of the Select Master degree involves the revelation of hidden teachings and the granting of further responsibilities to the candidate. It serves as a reminder that with greater knowledge comes greater accountability, and it teaches the importance of vigilance, trust, and discretion in carrying out the sacred work of Freemasonry.
By receiving the Select Master degree, the candidate completes their journey through the Council of Royal and Select Masters, having earned the trust of their Masonic brothers and being fully prepared for further responsibilities in the Masonic fraternity.
